There Was No Ham in the Hamburgers, Either
Last night, I made ratatouille for dinner. Jak-El was excited about this, until he learned the process would involve vegetables and not actual rats.
Apparently, he thought I was going to somehow make adorable talking rodents out of the zucchini our neighbor brought over.
Sigh. If only I was that talented.

You need helper monkeys!
Please forgive the self-advertisement here, but you are chatting about food. I must share my joyous experience from last night:

I do believe it was magical enough for talking rats to have been created.

And now I'm just screwing things up and making a mess of Lois' comments area.
Damn self-advertisers...can we call in the helper monkey clean up crew?
Oh yeah, go read bostongraf's blog....I remember that part of wedding planning fondly.
And now I want cake. Keeping on the rodent/food theme, did I mention we had little ceramic mice figurines on our cake instead of the traditional bride and groom?
And Bostongraf, congratulations! :-)
That's very cute to have little mice on the wedding cake. I don't think my better half would go for it though. As you know, a wedding is HER day, not mine.
So how was Ratatouille, anyway? Both the movie and the dish?
The movie looked good for kids, but does it work for child-less adult children as well?
The veggie ratatouille came out great -- kids wouldn't touch it, of course but the adults liked it.
We haven't gotten out to the movie yet --we love all the Pixar flicks, so hubby and I really want to see it.
I don't think this one will resonate with kids as much as Cars or Incredibles though--rodents just aren't as hip as racecars and superheroes to rugrats.
Hey did you guys hear? Cake has Special Constables!!! I saw the appointment on her calander!!! Sshhhh.
Lois:
I just came over here from my blog via your profile and saw your book list...The Time Traveler's Wife is easily the best book I've read in the last year. The only book on your list that I haven't read yet is the Haddon one...but I really liked The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. I wonder, have you ever read Jasper Fforde? You might like him...he's a great writer and quite nuts. (A bit punny.)
Spud:
Blabbermouth!
Oh oh oh and have you read The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell? Completely different than any of the other books on your list but one of my personal favorites. Not a particularly happy story but worth reading for the characters...it's just wonderful.
Uh-oh, I better stop...I'm sliding into book geek mode.
Cake: Haven't read either of the books you mentioned, but will check them out. Thanks!
Next book on my list is a collection of short stories by Neil Gaiman (speaking of geek mode), that I rushed out to buy as soon as it was published but then never got around to cracking open.
I'm ust still laughing at the whole rats in ratatouille story.
My Mum once told me that tinned spaghetti in sauce was actually dead worms. I still can't eat that stuff.
Yuk.
