You Know You're Raising Your Kids Right When...

...your two-year-old--who had been excitedly demanding to watch "Doctor Who" for an hour--asks you to wait to change the channel, so he can finish watching a "Monty Python" sketch.

This is what we were watching (without Spanish subtitles):

It also did my heart good earlier in the show to see him laughing his head off and repeating "THE Larch" over and over in a silly voice. (Pythonites will get it.) Reminded me of myself as a teenager. Which means that:

(a) Dan-El is very advanced for his years. Or,

(b) At age 15, I had the social maturity of a toddler.

I think the truth lies somewhere in between.

It means you have the same seance of humor. I love it when it happens. Your wee ones show you things like Python, or music video, that you watched and enjoyed.

The other day oldest teen showed me a video a dead love story he was explaining. I asked him if it was 'last dance with Maryjane'. It wasn't but I introduced him to Tom Petty right after. He was notably impressed by the creepiness. And noted the similarities between the songs. Than I showed home 'don't come around here no more'.

I won. Now the children are about to spread the word about school music videos.

HA!

The kiddos will be so shocked to learn that once upon a time, the M in MTV actually stood for "music," instead of Mediocre.

I know. When did it become a reality t.v. station?

My kids never watched it. They get theirs from on demand or you tube.

But the good video when I was younger were shown after midnight. Funny the same ones they show on VH1 classic. Funny most people back in the 80's never saw them. It's like 80's music they play now on the radio is more like what I listened to on college radio. Not what the mainstream radio played.

Luckily I listened to college and independent radio when I was a little goat. So I know all the really cool songs to mess with the little goats heads.

I wont even tell you what haircuts I had.

Ha! Remember "Friday Night Videos?" That's where I got my video fill when I was in high school, since we didn't get cable until my freshman year of college.

YES, OMG YES!

I loved that. I didn't get cable until after high school, too.

But I would sometimes visit a boy who had it. That's how I know what they didn't play on MTV.

Briefly a local channel showed videos all day long. That was between the scrambled porn and the Spanish. It was funny watching my bothers and their friends trying to see the naughty bits between the scramble, even scrambling the t.v. to try to counter the scrambling.

That was real funny. I would laugh, call them silly, and point them to father's dirty mags and books. Than I would let mother know they are reading dirty books they found in Daddy's closet.

All hell broke loose. What can I say, girls are evil.

Do you mean V66? Gawd, I used to go bonkers trying to tune that in...it usually came in best around midnight on Sunday. I was so mad when they changed their format to all shopping.

Yes.
I totally forgot the name. They tried so many formats. That Spanish was the only one that worked after they stopped showing old t.v. shows. I think I used to watch Nanny and the Professor on there and others.
